Communicating with Color

AIGA Student UNITE event: March 9th

On March 9th, we attended the AIGA Student UNITE event at UDA (840 14th Street). UNITE, is an annual AIGA San Diego tradition where students and professionals come together for food, drinks, and ideas. This year, UNITE held multiple workshops with local designers on topics ranging from selling your work in presentations to freelancing as an designer. I attended 3 different workshops:

  • Photographing work: Bradford Prairie
  • Lettering/Calligraphy Workshop: Channin Fulton
  • Freelance: Petra Ives
The photographing workshop facilitated by Bradford Prairie went over basic digital camera settings and equipment you need to set up a mini studio at home. He took a few photos to show us how to set up a simple layout of your designs and went over simple editing. The calligraphy workshop was very hands-on and fun experience. We went over the difference between lettering, type and fonts. The workshop facilitated by Petra Ives was very informational as she talked about her personal experience as a freelance graphic designer as she went over 15 things she has learned during her 15 years of freelancing.
